Centralized Printing: Pros and Cons
Centralized printing is where print jobs pass through one or more print servers on way to the printer. Users have little to no direct access to the printers. Printers tend to be attatched to the network, rather than personal computers.
Pros
- Easier to administrate (printer setup, security, management)
- Consistent Interface (standard queue names, standard software)
Cons
- Requires administration
- Concentrates services at points of failure
